Hello all, I have a ‘24 manual Dark Horse. This is my second manual vehicle, and I don’t know if it’s me shifting poorly or the cars transmission/gearing. When I’m driving and above a certain speed/rpm shifting from 4 to 5 feels bad. It feels like the car doesn’t like it at all. Is 5th meant to be babied in this car? When I’m pushing the car should I avoid 5th or granny shift it so the RPMs fall so it feels like a smooth shift? I hope this is the right section for this to post and thanks for any insight in advance.

You shouldn't have to baby it at all. I assume you have over 1000 miles on it. Try to no lift shift from 4 to 5 and see what it feels like. I know that isn't a straight shot but I was doing it just this past Sunday. I went to the DH Track Attack and there you kind of learn how tough that Tremec is. I don't know what your previous manual was but the Tremec does require a "commitment" Lol when you shift sometimes. Do you hear grinding or is the shifter fighting you?

Feels more like it’s fighting me, I have a little over 15k on the car. This is the second transmission as the first lost 5th gear synchros and was replaced by my ford.

Ok, this isn't a newly broken in car. I would say you have an issue especially if 5th feels different from other gears.

I just read the manual cars have a soft red line of 7250 while the autos is 7500.
Below are the gear ratios

Here's a more detailed breakdown:
  • Manual Transmission (TREMEC TR-3160):
    • 1st Gear: 3.25:1

    • 2nd Gear: 2.23:1

    • 3rd Gear: 1.61:1

    • 4th Gear: 1.24:1

    • 5th Gear: 1.00:1

    • 6th Gear: 0.63:1

    • Reverse: 2.95:1
  • Final Drive Ratio: 3.73:1
